A narrow canyon in Newnes Forest

26th July 2003

Trip Notes

On a cold winters day we ventured into another short but impressive dry narrow canyon near the Glow Worm Tunnel.

The entrance offered two abseils, one being a bit narrow and difficult. The second abseil is also very narrow and presents a good challenge.

The whole canyon is very narrow, and getting from the second to the third (final) abseil requires some contortion and squeezing. Not suitable for large people!

The final abseil is down a really pretty waterfall (watertrickle). From here a short detour takes you into the bottom of a beautiful gorge with a great ambiance.

And finally the climb out via a narrow slot delivers you to some stunning views from the top of the cliff. Another great canyon!

Camera info

All photos were taken with a Canon Powershot G1, and for canyon and low light shots I used a tiny little bendy leg tripod.
